There’s a reason it’s the most popular folk festival in the world, and most Munich residents love it too. I certainly never miss it, but you’ll probably enjoy it a little more during the week. You’ll find a great food market in the center of town called Viktualienmarkt. What I recommend is to stroll around the market, oktoberfest buy what you notice and then sit in the beer garden right next door. This way you can enjoy your favorite local delicacies and a good fresh beer, cheaper and better than in a nearby restaurant. Soon, a thriving food industry developed around it, threatening the city’s smaller breweries and restaurants.
If we spend the night near an airport or train station and want comfort and convenience, we stay in a larger hotel chain. If I mainly visit large cities, I prefer to take the train or a bus to get from one city to another. When I spend more time in smaller cities or want to take day trips to hard-to-reach places, I’d rather have a car. We usually buy a Rick Steves guide when one is available. And I highly recommend Culture Smart books: I always read one before visiting a new country, as they contain a lot of useful cultural information.
Instead, store the room in your suitcase and buy one at the train station. Camisole/ merino wool tank – these camisoles are the BEST for travel! They are soft, comfortable, easy to wash by hand and never stink. This could be TMI, but a few years ago, when I was traveling alone in Europe, I used the same merino wool tank every day for 14 days in warm spring weather. Frauenkirche Huge, distinctive double-domed church looming over the city center. The zoo itself also participates in conservation projects around the world to protect animals. Aside from the beautiful architecture, operas are still performed here to this day, so be sure to get a ticket to get “the full experience.” Oh yes, and for a truly luxurious stay in Munich, check into the Hotel Koenigshof – it’s so impressive. To save money on accommodation, I use Trusted Housesitters, a website that connects departing owners and travelers who can post their homes and pets. For hotels and independent apartments I use Booking.com.
